Description

Ayurveda manages hypertension (high blood pressure) by restoring balance to the body’s doshas (energetic forces, primarily Vata and Pitta) through diet, lifestyle changes, herbs, and stress-reduction techniques
Understanding Hypertension in Ayurveda
  • Root Cause: Ayurveda views high blood pressure as a functional imbalance of Vyana Vata (the sub-dosha of Vata governing circulation) combined with disturbed Pitta and clogged channels (Srotas).
  • Perspective: It is often linked to lifestyle stress, poor digestion (Ama), and the aggravation of aggravated air and fire elements affecting the blood (Rakta dhatu).
    Core Ayurvedic Approaches
    • Dietary Adjustments (Ahara):
      • Eat fresh, warm, and easily digestible foods.
      • Reduce heavy, salty, oily, and intensely spicy foods that aggravate Pitta and Vata.
      • Increase intake of potassium-rich foods like leafy greens, fresh fruits, and whole grains.

    • Herbal Remedies (Aushadha):
      • Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina): Traditionally used for its calming and blood pressure-lowering properties.
      • Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna): Known to support heart muscle function and healthy circulation.
      • Note: Always consult an expert before taking herbal formulations, as they can interact with conventional medications.

    • Lifestyle and Yoga (Vihara &acharya):
      • Practice calming yoga postures (such as Shavasana, Vrikshasana), deep breathing exercises (Pranayama), and meditation to soothe the nervous system.
      • Maintain a regular daily routine (Dinacharya) and get adequate rest
