Nasya therapy refers to nasal administration of herbal oil or ghee. According to Ayurveda “The Nose is the only Gateway to the Brain” (Naasaahi Siraso Dwaram). Nasya is a part of the Panchakarma therapy, where the central nervous system is cleansed through administering beneficial oils through the nostrils. The oil is customized by the practitioner based on the condition to be treated. The therapy cleanses, purifies and strengthens the nasal passages to heal underlying conditions.
Nasya Therapy is an Ayurvedic nasal administration treatment where herbalized oils, powders, or juices are instilled into the nostrils. It is used to clear nasal passages, reduce respiratory inflammation, and deliver localized medicine to the head and neck region.

Scientific Research
While Nasya is deeply rooted in traditional Ayurvedic Panchakarma (cleansing therapies), modern medical research shows it presents a biologically plausible method for rapid drug absorption. The nasal cavity features a rich capillary network and direct olfactory nerve pathways to the central nervous system, bypassing the digestive tract.
- Allergic Rhinitis: Studies have found that nasal administration forms a thixotropic barrier on the mucosa, significantly reducing nasal and ocular symptoms caused by airborne allergens.
- Pain and Tenderness: Randomized controlled trials have demonstrated Nasya’s efficacy in significantly reducing neck pain and tenderness when compared to control groups
