Swedana Therapy Workshop Training
14 CE Hours
The official course syllabus for the NCBTMB-approved 14-Hour Swedana Therapy Workshop focuses on transitioning traditional Ayurvedic thermal medicine into a legal, safe therapeutic massage practice.
The curriculum is divided structurally into clear modules to satisfy continuing education parameters.
Module 1: Foundations of Ayurvedic Sweat Therapy (3 Hours)
- History of Swedana: Examining text references regarding Purvakarma (pre-detoxification priming treatments).
- The Physics of Agni & Ojas: Understanding how heat interacts with digestion, internal tissue layers (Dhatus), and metabolic waste (Ama).
- Therapeutic Mechanism: How thermal application dilates channels (Srotas), liquefies deep-seated toxicity, and drives medicated herbal oils deep into the musculoskeletal system.
Module 2: Client Assessment & Safety Protocols (3 Hours)
- Doshic Constitutions: Customizing steam duration, moisture levels, and temperature profiles depending on Vata, Pitta, and Kapha baselines.
- Contraindications Check: Screenings for heat sensitivity, cardiovascular concerns, pregnancy, specific bleeding tendencies (Raktapitta), or skin conditions.
- NCBTMB Scope Compliance: Reviewing boundaries regarding the strict prohibition of medical diagnosis or internal herb prescribing.
Module 3: Modalities & Equipment Mastery (4 Hours)
- Full-Body Steam Cabinets: Safe operations of standardized Ayurvedic wooden or fiberglass steam boxes.
- Nadi Swedana: Utilizing tube-directed localized steam delivery for specific joint injuries, localized muscle tension, and targeted neural pathway stimulation.
- Herbal Formulation Preparation: Selecting and infusing specific raw materials or essential oil vapors appropriate for therapeutic targets without compromising equipment.
- Critical Heat Management: Proper head-cooling practices, cold-compress positioning, and continuous vital monitoring to ensure client safety during deep perspiration.
Module 4: Practical Integration & Clinical Flow (4 Hours)
- Synergistic Sequences: Structuring the treatment directly following warm oil bodywork (Abhyanga or Garshana) to maximize lymphatic clearance and oil penetration.
- Post-Therapy Protocols: Gradual cool-down workflows, rehydration steps, specialized oil-removal strategies, and lifestyle recovery advice.
- Hands-on Practicum: Supervised clinical execution where students exchange full treatment cycles to experience both practitioner and receiver feedback.
