Description
Yoga Therapy for Massage Therapists Training
20 CE Hours
An official 20-Hour Yoga Therapy for Massage Therapists continuing education course satisfies strict NCBTMB Course Content Guidelines. Under national rules, any yoga-related curriculum approved for massage therapy CEs must strictly categorize yoga as therapist self-care or focus explicitly on assisted, passive structural stretching workflows within the legal LMT scope of practice.
The curriculum cannot grant a “Yoga Instructor Certification”. Instead, it uses somatic concepts to protect the therapist’s body while expanding hands-on myofascial and movement protocols.
Module 1: Biomechanics & Professional Self-Care (5 Hours)
- Therapist Ergonomics: Utilizing foundational yoga asana principles (like grounding, core engagement, and structural stacking) to enhance table body mechanics, minimizing thumb and wrist strain.
- Repetitive Stress Prevention: Building a customized, daily self-care stretching and yoga sequence to balance the physical toll of deep tissue work.
- Somatic Breathwork: Implementing Pranayama (breath control) during active clinical shifts to manage personal stamina, reset the central nervous system, and prevent occupational burnout.
Module 2: Applied Anatomy & Sensory Stretching (5 Hours)
- The Physiology of Stretching: Studying Golgi tendon organs, muscle spindles, and reciprocal inhibition to deepen assisted table stretches safely.
- Myofascial Meridians: Mapping the intersections between traditional yoga lines (Nadis or Sen lines) and Western anatomy’s myofascial slings.
- Range of Motion Assessment: Evaluating client joint restrictions through the lens of yogic movement theory to safely pinpoint targets before hands-on treatment.
Module 3: Assisted Yoga & Table Sequencing (5 Hours)
- Passive Table-Based Asanas: Modifying traditional yoga postures into safe, client-passive table protocols.
- Prop Adaptation: Using yoga blocks, straps, wedges, and bolsters to properly support, stabilize, and drape clients during deep structural releases.
- Special Populations Modification: Adapting passive stretches for side-lying flows, catering to clients with restricted mobility, structural injuries, or pregnancy.
Module 4: Neuromuscular Calibration & Integration (5 Hours)
- Polyvagal Theory & Somatics: Understanding how the vagus nerve influences muscle guarding, and utilizing gentle rocking and sustained positional releases to down-regulate the nervous system.
- Integration into Standard Massage: Learning to blend 15-to-30 minute assisted stretching blocks seamlessly into traditional Swedish or deep-tissue clinical flows.
- Client Self-Care Education: Training LMTs on how to instruct clients in safe, post-session home stretching routines based on the principles practiced in class.
