Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) – 500-Hour Certification Program
The Global Ayurveda Academy, USA offers a comprehensive 500-hour Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) Certification Program in a hybrid learning format that combines online theoretical instruction, in-person practical training, supervised classroom experiences, and guided self-study.
This professional certification program is approved by the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America (AAPNA) and accredited by the American Ayurvedic Certification and Credentialing Accreditation Council (AACCAC), USA.
The curriculum builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired through the Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant (ALC) Certification Program and provides advanced education in classical Ayurvedic theory, constitutional assessment, pathology, herbal principles, Panchakarma, and client counseling. Students develop the knowledge and practical competencies necessary to provide individualized Ayurvedic wellness consultations within the recognized non-medical scope of practice.
Program Objectives
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be prepared to:
- Conduct comprehensive Ayurvedic constitutional and wellness assessments.
- Evaluate Prakriti (constitutional nature) and Vikriti (current state of imbalance).
- Assess Doshas, Gunas, Agni, Ama, Dhatus, Malas, and Srotas using classical Ayurvedic assessment methods.
- Develop individualized dietary, lifestyle, yoga, meditation, and wellness recommendations.
- Recommend traditional Ayurvedic herbs and home remedies that support health and wellness.
- Educate clients regarding preventive health practices and long-term lifestyle management.
- Provide Ayurvedic wellness consultations within the professional scope established by AAPNA and AACCAC.
- Recognize situations requiring referral to licensed healthcare professionals.
Program Outcomes
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Apply classical Ayurvedic principles during comprehensive wellness consultations.
- Assess constitutional balance and identify factors contributing to doshic imbalance.
- Develop individualized wellness plans based on Ayurvedic assessment.
- Educate clients regarding nutrition, Dinacharya (daily routine), Ritucharya (seasonal routine), yoga, meditation, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Recommend appropriate Ayurvedic herbs and traditional home remedies for wellness support.
- Maintain professional ethics and practice within the recognized non-medical scope of Ayurvedic Health Counseling.
- Recognize the limits of professional practice and make appropriate referrals whenever medical diagnosis or treatment is indicated.
Prerequisite
Successful completion of the 500-hour Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant (ALC) Certification Program or an equivalent approved training program.

Scope of Practice
An Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) has successfully completed an approved Ayurvedic Health Counselor training program and actively incorporates Ayurvedic principles into personal life and professional practice.
Individuals who earn this certification are qualified to provide Ayurvedic wellness education and lifestyle consultation services within the scope of preventive health and holistic wellness.
The scope of practice includes:
- Educating clients on the prevention of imbalance and the promotion of health and well-being through the principles of Ayurveda.
- Recommending individualized dietary guidelines, daily and seasonal lifestyle practices, yoga, meditation, pranayama (breathing practices), and health-promoting herbal recommendations that support overall wellness.
- Designing personalized preventive health and wellness programs based on Ayurvedic principles.
- Utilizing traditional Ayurvedic assessment methods to evaluate an individual’s Prakriti (constitutional nature) and Vikriti (current state of imbalance), including assessment of the Doshas, Gunas, Agni, Ama, Dhatus, Malas, and Srotas.
- Providing wellness coaching and educational guidance that empowers clients to develop sustainable habits supporting balance and vitality.
- Educating clients regarding Ayurvedic preventive healthcare, healthy aging, seasonal living, and long-term wellness strategies.
Professional Limitations
Ayurvedic Health Counselors practice within a non-medical wellness model and are not licensed medical professionals, unless separately licensed in another healthcare profession.
Accordingly, they:
- Do not diagnose diseases or medical conditions.
- Do not treat, cure, or prevent diseases.
- Do not practice conventional medicine or any licensed healthcare profession unless separately licensed to do so.
- Do not prescribe pharmaceutical medications or perform medical procedures.
- Do not advise clients to discontinue or modify prescribed medical treatments.
- Refer clients to qualified licensed healthcare professionals whenever medical evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment is indicated.
The primary role of an Ayurvedic Health Counselor is to educate, guide, and empower individuals in adopting Ayurvedic diet, lifestyle, yoga, meditation, and wellness practices that promote health, prevent imbalance, and support overall well-being while working collaboratively with licensed healthcare providers when appropriate.
